A Nevada man died after encountering problems in waters at Hapuna Beach Park on Thursday.

Officers responded to a 2:53 p.m. call about a possible drowning. When they arrived, they learned that 80-year-old Glen Giles of Las Vegas was about 20 yards offshore when he called for help. He was brought ashore and CPR was attempted.

Giles was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:03 p.m.

The case has been classified as a coroner’s inquest. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
